Renters credit in Oregon

Varies

Can Renters Get a Tax Break in Oregon?

Short answer: No: Oregon doesn't offer a renter's credit or rent rebate. Oregon has no state renter tax credit or renter property tax refund. The state's Elderly Rental Assistance program helps very-low-income, unstably housed renters 58+ through local agencies, but it is housing aid, not a tax break. Lower-income renters can still claim Oregon's earned income credit: 14% of the federal EITC for 2026; 17% if you have a dependent under age 3 (up from 9%/12%).

Rent on your own home isn't deductible on your federal return; the exceptions are a home office used for your business or renting out part of the place you rent.

Records to keep: Keep your lease, rent receipts or a landlord rent certificate, and proof of household income. Check your state's current-year form and deadline before you apply.
